Northern Territory

BUSINESS HARDSHIP PACKAGE

The Business Hardship Package is available to NT businesses with a turnover less than $50 million who can demonstrate a reduction of turnover of 30% or more due to COVID-19.

Once approved for the hardship register, businesses will receive a business hardship certificate that they can use to access relevant concessions such as payroll tax, utilities, rents and rates.

The Business Hardship Package is available until 1 July 2021.

Australian Capital Territory

ELECTRICITY REBATE

Cafes, restaurants and takeaways are eligible to receive a one-off $1,000 rebate on their electricity bills until 30 June 2021. Eligible businesses can apply online.

WATER REBATE

Hotels and other accommodation providers, as well as large venues whose primary purpose is to host functions and events that involve large public attendances (such as concerts, balls and conferences) can apply to receive a rebate on their fixed water and sewerage charges. Eligible hotel and other accommodation providers can apply here and function and event venues can apply here.

FOOD BUSINESS REGISTRATION, OUTDOOR DINING & LIQUOR LICENCING FEE WAIVERS

The food business registration fee waiver has been extended for another 12 months, until 31 March 2022.  If food business registration has been prepaid for more than one year in advance, an additional 12 months will be added to the licence.

The outdoor dining permit fee waiver has been extended for another 12 months, until 30 June 2022.

On and off liquor licencees will have received a fee waiver on the annual licence fee for 12 months from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021.

The annual licence fee waiver for some liquor licencees has been tapered to provide a 50% fee reduction for 12 months from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022. Eligible licensees include nightclub licence, restaurant and café licence, bar licence, general licence, catering licence, special licence and club licence.

If you hold an existing on liquor licence, you can also choose to move to a general liquor licence, free of charge until 30 June 2021 to provide an option to broaden your business model.

Businesses do not need to contact the ACT Government for these waivers. They will be applied automatically as part of the normal annual fee licencing process.

HIRE CAR & CHARTER BUS REGISTRATION FEES

From 1 October 2020 to 30 September 2021, vehicle registration fees will be waived for hire cars and charter buses registered in the ACT.

The waiver is available on:

  • All active vehicle registrations for hire cars and charter buses in the ACT
  • All cancelled or expired vehicle registrations for hire cars and charter buses in the ACT.

If your vehicle is already registered, the free 12-month registration will be applied when you current registration expires.

If your hire car or charter bus registration has expired or has been cancelled, you are still eligible for 12 months free registration.

 

New South Wales

SMALL BUSINESS FEES AND CHARGES REBATE

If you are a sole trader, the owner of a small business or a not-for-profit organisation in NSW, you may be eligible for a small business fees and charges rebate of $1500.

This rebate helps businesses recover from the impacts of COVID-19 and encourages growth by reducing the cost of running a business. Eligible businesses or not-for-profits only need to apply for the rebate once, but can submit multiple claims until the full value of $1500 is reached.

Funds can be used to offset the costs of eligible NSW and local government fees and charges due and paid from 1 March 2021. These include, but are not limited to:

  • food authority licences
  • liquor licences
  • tradesperson licences
  • event fees
  • outdoor seating fees
  • council rates.
